REHABILITATION OF ONCOLOGIC PATIENTS WITH HEAD, NECK AND MAXILLOFACIAL DEFECTS

Abstract

<p>The article reviews the efficacy of the rehab course of treatment on maxillofacial area after surgery&nbsp;operations using complex endo- and exo-orthopedic instruments for removal of defects. A method of complex&nbsp;prosthesis was developed and introduced for the rehabilitation of patients with malignant tumors in the upper-jaw area after surgeries. The analysis of the medical history and outpatient records of 107 oncological patients&nbsp;with postoperative defects of maxillofacial area has been carried out, those undergone various prosthesis methods.&nbsp;According to the results of the study the methodology of the complex prosthesis of defects on the upper-jaw area, using&nbsp;polyurethane plastic materials was improved, which enables making protective plates on the day of surgery. Due&nbsp;complex rehabilitation, patients with malignant tumors and defects in the maxillofacial area recover up to 80-85%&nbsp;according to Dr. Kornievsky&rsquo;s scale.&nbsp;</p>
