Abstract

This paper examines the emergence of a scientific article and its modern form. It is noted that by the 50s-60s of the 20th century, there was a need to prepare bibliographic, analytical, and abstract reviews of scientific information, monitor and evaluate data, as well as create a significant information database to solve the problem of searching for scientific literature.
In this regard, the scientific community has come up with ideas to create a multidisciplinary citation index. Based on the need to solve these problems, the American scientist Eugene Garfield laid the foundations of the science of "scientometrics." It provides detailed definitions, interpretations, and classifications of a number of concepts, in particular, "metrics", "permutation" "index", "quartile", "impact factor", and "h-index".
